This morning I visited the Kauaeranga Valley in the Coromandel peninsula and took a couple of short scenic walks. Then I went to a hot springs pool at “Miranda” and relaxed in sulfur-smelling water.
After that I visited the place where the filmed The Shire in the LOTR movies. I wasn’t really expecting much since I heard that most of it was torn down. However, since they are reusing that location for the new Hobbit movies pretty much everything has been rebuilt, in addition new structures are being built. It was a movie set under construction.
Here are the pictures:
- Sunset in Thames
- Kauaeranga Valley
- The Shire
- I think this is Sam’s house
- The Party Tree!
- They also showed us how to handle the sheep. These are baby sheep we just fed

Well foxbat see you’ve made it to New Zealand!
Merry Xmas and happy new year to ya.
It looks much nicer in NZ than here at the present snowy and cold 17F. Apparently the northeast is getting pounded with snow, the news has a story about these people stuck on a NY subway for 6 hours unable to get out of the subway car. I think I’d break a window at some point. The pics are great, I think they should let folks live in those hobbit houses when done filming, hee, hee. Called Gary yesterday he was resting so I didn’t speak to him but it sounds like he is doing good, tired as expected. Not much else to say on this end things continue as always very busy over the holidays which will continue through the new year.
